Abstract
This article examines the historical, political and social aspects of political persecution that took place in southern Kyrgyzstan during the Soviet totalitarian regime, particularly during the years of repression from the 1930s to the 1950s. Drawing primarily on archival data, the personal accounts of victims of repression and historical sources, this academic study provides a comprehensive analysis of the scale, causes and consequences of repression in this region. In particular, it describes in detail the persecution of the intelligentsia, religious figures and wealthy aristocrats, and its impact on public consciousness. The aim of this article is to establish historical justice, to illustrate the fate of the victims of repression and to analyse the significance of these events today. The research will present detailed information on the regional characteristics of the repression in Southern Kyrgyzstan and its historical legacy. These events also made a significant contribution to the formation of statehood among the Kyrgyz people. Since the Kyrgyz people gained independence, spiritual values have grown considerably. The influence of science, upbringing, literacy, language, culture and personal development on the development of spiritual values today must be immense. During the heyday of the Kyrgyz people and the formation of the Kyrgyz state, a number of our historical figures lost their lives and endured much unbearable suffering. They were educated, literate, eloquent and thorough masters of the Kyrgyz language, well-versed in history and having studied the language down to the finest detail. The period from the 1920s to the 1950s is regarded as one of the darkest and most tragic in the history of the USSR. The political repression carried out by the Soviet authorities during those years affected the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Kyrgyzstan, including its southern region, was not spared from this tragic process. The aim of this article is to reveal the impact of the repression on public consciousness by examining the historical causes, forms and consequences of the repression in southern Kyrgyzstan.
